Terry
Terry Owen

Terry Owen graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University. He began his teaching career at Glenridge Junior High School in 1957. He opened Walker Junior High in 1966 where he taught Chorus, Beginning Band, and General Music until 1981. He then went to Conway Junior High where he taught until his retirement in 1987. A highlight of his career was directing the 1987 Florida All State Junior High Chorus. Terry has an extensive background in church music and worked with the Orlando Opera. He currently lives in Athens, Alabama, where he is active in the First Baptist Church.

 

 

Jackie Hails

 

Jackie Hails is a native of northwest Florida. She graduated from Niceville High School in 1968 and received the Bachelor of Music Education from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1975. She began her teaching career at Mary Esther Elementary School. In the fall of 1983, she became the choral director at Choctawhatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach. The Select Chorus from Meigs, where she taught, performed at the 1982 Florida ACDA convention and the Choctawhatchee Madrigals at the 1990 ACDA Southern Division Convention.

Jackie served as the Florida Vocal Association as district chairman, junior high chairman, and music committee chairman. She served as president from 1996–1999. Jackie served on the FVA executive board for 17 of her 30 years of teaching. She attributes her musical growth to her association with ACDA and FVA. Jackie has been involved in church music since the age of 15 and currently serves as organist-choir director for the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Walton Beach.

Barbara Kingman
Barbara Kingman

Barbara Kingman was a graduate of both Florida Bible college and the University of South Florida. She studied piano pedagogy and was an amazing director and accompanist. She taught at Florida Christian school for 24 years. Her choirs consistently on superiors at Florida Vocal Association Music Performance Assessments and FACCS competitions. Her choirs have sung at Carnegie Hall and in Europe. She was the district 16 chairman for a total of 5 years and a certified Florida Vocal Association Adjudicator. Barbara passed away in the late summer of 2014. Her musicianship and sweet spirit are greatly missed.
