The adjudicator application can be found here:
To be listed as an adjudicator for choral and sight-reading categories, an individual must meet the following criteria:
- Superior ratings received by concert choirs at district MPAs for at least three of the last five years of teaching.
- Successful completion of adjudicator training session(s).
- Successful completion of an adjudicator internship program.
- Recommendation by the adjudication committee to the Executive Board.
- Approval by the Executive Board.
Individuals currently on the adjudicators list who are renewing board approval status must meet the following criteria:
- Superior ratings received by concert choirs at district MPAs for at least three of the last five years of teaching.
- Successful completion of adjudicator training session(s).
Applicants will submit an adjudicator’s application, along with verification of criteria item #1 to the adjudication committee.
Adjudicator training workshops are held each year in July, one day prior to the Head’s Choral Panorama and FVA Summer Convention. Workshops require a pre-registration fee of $35 (or $45 if not pre-registered). Workshops may be attended by anyone, including those not seeking to be placed on the adjudicators list. The training session may be completed before or after submitting an adjudicator’s application. (More information)
Upon completion and submission of the application, the applicant will be notified by the state adjudication chair of availability of designated sites for internship. Internships must be conducted outside of the applicant’s home district. Predetermined regional districts available for choral internships will be announced in the fall by the state adjudication chair. 15 district choral performances are required, and six sight-reading evaluations. For sight-reading internships, the applicant will directly contact the district chair in which the applicant intends to intern, to confirm that a board-approved adjudicator is available for supervision. This may include the intern’s home district. Recordings and/or adjudication sheets, and supervising adjudicator’s evaluation will be submitted by the applicant to the adjudication committee for review. The applicant will be notified within three months concerning the committee’s recommendation to the Executive Board.
The board approval validity period is five years, at which time approved adjudicators may complete an adjudicator training session, and submit verification of the last five years of MPA ratings to renew board approval.
Adjudicators who fail to renew board approval within the five-year period will be placed on inactive status, until completion of an adjudicator training session. While on inactive status, an adjudicator may not be used in any district as a board approved adjudicator.
Retired teachers wishing to be placed on the adjudicators list will meet the same criteria as listed above. To renew board approval, retired adjudicators with board approval must complete an adjudicator training session.
To be listed as an adjudicator for vocal solo, piano solo, ensemble, student conducting, and special categories:
The individual’s name can be submitted to the Executive Board for review at the May board meeting. Those interested should contact a district chairman or any other board member prior to the meeting to make a formal request to be placed on the adjudicators list. Pending board approval, the individual will be added to the adjudicator list beginning the following year.
